Now, whilst I do agree with your main message here, and I am one of the people who has badgered Alpha the most lately. But I would like to clarify that I do not feel as strongly about everything to the same extent as you do.

That's perfectly alright man. I probably wouldn't have even piped up about this again if it weren't for the email that got sent out to all forum members.

Merc has a point, Alpha. Almost everything you've done as a member of Staff has been phrased in terms of what you want. This isn't a new problem - since the day you became Admin you've often made decisions that seemed to fly in the face of both reason and the general consensus of the community because it's what you wanted. You've spent so long trying to build a legacy that you've forgotten a legacy means nothing if there's nobody left to acknowledge it.

Look man, I'll be straight: If I said that your actions as a staff member engaging with the community didn't play a part in me leaving, I'd be lying. I don't harbour any grudge or ill will though. I don't hate you. Like I said, you're a brilliant coder and an alright guy, but your ethos makes you suited for something other than the face of Innectis.

ArkaTekk, you're only new (unless you're an alternative of Ryan, in which case hi Ryan!) so you haven't seen or been through the things that the fossils like Alpha, Merc or myself have. I'm being a bit harsh, yes, but this had been a particular sticking point for many of us.

I began writing a huge rant, but it seems rather pointless seeing as I'm unlikely to return to Innectis.

Alpha, if I'm going to give a few words of advice:

1) Keep on doing IDP, but step down as community manager. This place needs someone dedicated who actively listens to their playerbase and staff and is consistently present. You're brilliant at coding, but historically have had a less than stellar record in community engagement - if the players and even your staff abandoning you isn't an indication of that, then I don't know what is.

2) It's good to see you don't want to micromanage everything anymore. That was a huge issue for myself and a number of players when we left. Make sure you don't start slipping back into those bad habits.

3) If all else fails, then please, just let go of the past and let this place fade gracefully into obscurity.

Best of luck.

Banned permanently.

Spoken over with the staff already.

If anyone requires more information on this, please do not spam here, contact a staff member personally.
Could you post a reason on here? For clarity. Also, it's an indefinite ban, get used to it!

....

That said (or unsaid), I think it's only fair to explain why people are banned rather than 'Yep they're banned now GG'. Otherwise there's not much point in having a ban section, you might as well quietly banhammer people from the server without saying anything.

well yeah pretty much said it in the subject but can you unbann me now please i know it was perma bann but others who were perma banned were allowed back.....

You took out your anger on me. That's why I permabanned you then, for blatantly insulting me.

There's your answer right there.

Also, don't ever use 'others got let back from a permaban' as grounds for getting unbanned.

goh, perma bans have pretty much always been this anyway. A lot and I do mean a lot of perma bans have been revoked before and a lot of people were not happy with it. The reason they were never happy with it is because fhey fail to see how people CAN change and it is the fact people  CAN change that Alpha sees and why he made the decision of indefinate bans for the server.

I did state that permas had been revoked in the past for little more than 'maybe they'll be different this time...' Like I said, I'm not hostile to indefinites per se, I just don't believe that any server should get rid of permabans altogether. That seems extremely counter-productive, as I'm sure many will agree and have agreed on this thread.

This is not about failing to see the good in people. This is about not drawing a line and knowing when to say 'enough is enough'.

I know some people who will never be happy with it (As ever, I don't name names) but tough luck. I came on and read this post and very few of you even had the decence to consider the idea and respect the servers owbers decision, why not try coming up with your own ideas for a few days instead of critisizing everyone elses JUST because they don't suit your way of doing things. Besides it isn't like most people who were permabanned will even read this topic, let alone come back.

"As ever, I don't name names". I presume you're implying myself or SGT? That line seems unnecessary and if any thing a veiled barb that you certainly know people will pick up on. But, I digress. I'm not here to argue semantics.

I have been extremely vocal about my stance on Permabans for well over two years now, and have suggested on countless occasions that there needs to be protocols in place that determine when it is right to permaban someone. This simple bit of planning would fix everything, clarify any confusion between staff and players and on the whole benefit the server greatly. However, my suggestions have gone unheeded. I even made a suggestion in my last post on this topic. Don't lecture me about not being productive.

As for permabanned members coming back and reading the topic, I admit you have a point there. Many of the previously permabanned members have since moved on and have not been seen around the forums for quite some time. However, this is not going to be the case in the future. When I said it sets a bad precedent, this decision gives the impression that you can, in the end, get away with anything without final and definitive consequences.

I don't want to start a revolution. I don't want to start a mob out for Alpha's head. I want basic common sense and the fundamental principles of Law to be used over moral judgements.

If there is a moment where any of you guys become indefinitely banned, you'll be thanking Alpha when we reconsider the ban at a later date.

I'm sure Fangula thanked Alpha many times.

Seriously, what we're dealing with here is essentially a code of laws. You're telling me that even the worst of the worst murderers, psychopaths and thieves aren't up for spending the rest of their lives behind bars?

It's not that I hate 'indefinate bans', it's that rather than admitting you made a mistake and putting correct processes in place to ensure that it doesn't happen again, you throw it out the window and establish a solution that suits yourself better.

If you want my opinion on what should be done here, I say work out a process of review that determines when a person doesn't deserve another chance, and keep indefinate bans as a sort of limbo that goes with that process. Hell, I'll even help you set something like that up if you want. But for the love of all that is good and right in this world, don't throw permas use out the window because your subjective religious affiliation says they're not necessary. Being raised as a Lutheran I can see that Christianity works that way, however society as a whole does not.

So are curennt permenatly banned members now banned indefinitely? Do they have a chance of coming back?
Yes, all permanent bans that are currently in effect are now indefinite. That means they can come back if the staff feel they are worthy of coming back.

You are setting a very, very bad precedent by this. This seems just a convenient way of dodging the problem of Perma Bans rather than actually fixing it.

The best kind of X-Ray.

I will be welcome to a conversation with you if you are able to calm down and talk things out, but the disrespect you've shown us today will not be tolerated.

Permanently Banned until Jailout feels he can treat the community and all of it's members with respect.

Indefinitely banned. INDEFINITELY. I may be arguing over petty semantics, but please for the love of all that is right and good in this world, please make the distinction next time.

Suggestions / Re: Aether. We Want it back. Mini-Games, NTY. <3
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:19:49 AM »
Erm, the Aether is a chunk generator, its really easy to add, since its a premade.. Adding a world for this is easy also, so its not exactly a lot of work..

Incorrect. The old Aether i'm pretty sure almost everyone would agree looked like garbage. It was improper, and if re-implemented, would need to look much better before I would give my personal approval.

The terrain looked like garbage or the random destroyed buildings and cobble bridges looked like garbage?

Towards the end of its life it did get rather cluttered with crap everywhere - cobble bridges, random dirt peninsulas, etc. However I always thought that the Aether was more fun than the regular lot world. It presented a challenge, and you had to think carefully about terraforming and block placement.

Things are not peachy and are not looking the best right now. I see this as an official admission of this fact rather than the pointless, foolish optimism and sugar-coating of the past.

I have the utmost respect for not just glossing over everything, Alpha. The first step to fixing a problem is admitting that there is one.

P.S. You should totally delete my lots. That's one thing I'm still adamant on.

Banned for 35 days for very offensive signs, and a male organ in his front lot. This also earned you a lot reset. The ban time was determined from your previous bans and their reasons. This showed you want nothing to do with Innectis, but I decided to not make the ban permanent, and give you another chance when the time is up.

He knows that he's got at least a 75% chance of a perma being revoked.
Go I see why all of you think the staff revoke almost every perma ban after stating it will not but think of it this way; You are part of staff an Admin, Mod, Rainbow mod e.t.c and you have a great number of people hammering you to revoke the ban the least you can do is reconsider it and look over the facts again. If this results in a permanent ban being revoked despite the staffs best wishes so be it, it's only fair.

A permanent ban is a last resort, and should not be taken as lightly as our staff seem to. Most of the time permas have been handed out by the staff and revoked by the staff with little to none of this 'hammering' that you've mentioned. A perma has almost no meaning around here anymore, and I would say that there's a big difference between fairness and incorrect server moderation practices.

I know I sound rude, and jaded, and perhaps even a little out of character, but this particular thorn in my side is yet another thing that drove me away from here. While staff seem to be able to rationalise their permabans, they hardly seem able to remain consistent and to follow due procedure.

Perm ban is agreed upon, it will not be lifted.
After further review, this ban has been determined to be invalid. We thought about the reasons for it, and did not feel they were adequate enough to produce a ban, much less a permanent ban, so it has been reversed.

waiting for this post from the first day because y'know innectis and perma bans

Backflipping, as per usual. While I'm extremely tempted to have a bitter rant, I'll bite my tongue.
