Ban Appeal
« on: August 21, 2014, 10:05:42 PM »
Just a quick thought, if you introduced the following rule in regards to ban appeals, you would only get people willing to argue the ban if they believe they have actually done nothing wrong, thus reducing pointless ban appeals:

  • Failed Ban Appeals will have their sentence increase by 50%.

(Harsh, but I wanna see peoples reaction to this.)

I'm here to help.. With the following exception:

@EventHandler(priority = EventPriority.LOW)
public void onPlayerJoin(PlayerJoinEvent event) {
    Player player = event.getPlayer();
    if (player.getName().equals("SGT_ADZ") {
        player.kickPlayer("Yeah... Nah!");
        return;
    }
}

Ha, well you should know the answer yourself, Nos.

Ban times are decided before the ban is made. Increasing them because of a failed appeal seems like it's just adding punishment to something that was already decided. Not really something I'm for. Also this should only be about suggestions to the server, not concepts!

Yeh, I was talking to dsh about it, but I have to say, your reaction was a lot more boring than I had hoped for.

You would be increasing them for wasting staff time anyway, you do something similar for pointless /staffrequest's. Its similar to increasing a ban when a player tries to avoid it using a secondary account. Also, as I have already discussed, I thought you would be against the idea. ^^

Also this should only be about suggestions to the server, not concepts!
This is a suggestion regarding the server, bans are a very active part. All ideas are 'concepts'. Also if you don't want suggestions regarding bans or the way the server runs, write it in the rules, there is nothing against it anywhere. Sources:

Suggestions on how to improve Innectis (or the forum).

Board Rules:
There are some rules to suggest something to be added to the server.

If you got a good idea that you want to share, make clear what you want. You can add images to make it extra clear.
It does need to be in context with the limits we have, and it mustn't change the gameplay of Minecraft in general. (like flying)

So till notch releases his own API, we cant add blocks or items.

We already look ban happy most of the time. This would just add to that. No thanks.

But is it wrong to be ban happy? We are strict with our bans but we can pride ourselves in knowing that we give others a second chance, (myself and yourself included SGT) so as much as I feel increasing ban time by 50% might not be a good idea, I wouldn't say we should be negative about being ban happy.

Yes it's wrong to be ban happy. It doesn't paint out server in a very good light. I spoke to Alpha about a ban appeal before I even made it. I don't see why people should be punished additionally for simply asking a question. Some of the ridiculous bans that have been made by staff are just an example of how ban happy Innectis has been in the past. It's not a good look for us, and it's completely absurd to increase someones ban time. Once someone is banned, the ban is set, there is no reason to have it increased.

Unless they continue with poor behavior on other affiliated medias such as the forums and use other forum accounts to bypass mutes/bans. (which no one has done, yet)

Then do something with the power you do have. Don't just stand by whilst it loses more people! We're just looking out for people, sorry if some actions are taken that people do not like. It's not easy to please everyone, and if we start losing members for what we did, whose in the wrong?

Ban happy is bad. We are taking our time to read ban appeals when we don't really have to. It's just our good nature to do, so increasing the ban for "wasting our voluntary time" is not a great idea, but there are other ways your ban would be increased. An appeal is not acting out against your ban, it's merely trying to save you time from being banned. It is hardly a reason to increase the ban.

This is a overall bad suggestion. (Sorry Nossy)

It's just unfair to ban people for asking a question. Its even worse when you punish someone for pleading his or her case. This is a server where everyone is unified, not a damn oligarchy or tyranny.
