Title: What do you want to know?
Post by: Vector on December 24, 2013, 04:27:40 AM
I feel as if I could be a bit more open with the development atmosphere of Innectis. Now, obviously there are questions I may not feel at liberty to answer, but I will most likely give you an answer you may be looking for.

Now let the questions roll!

Yeah, Nicole has a good question.

As for mine, have you ever considered getting more people to work on the IDP with you?

Now that Hret, The_Lynxy, and Nosliw are gone, it's all AlphaBlend with no help.

I keep mentioning for him to teach me whenever he complains about the amount of work :P

Most of our ideas have come from staff members, why don't you hire a couple people as a "think-box" to brainstorm some ideas for improvement?

Where have the inspiration for most of our features come from?

What sort of features generate the most lag?

Lue gave me a suggestion for a site to add. I just haven't done it yet! However, that is a thing we can discuss for the future.

Yes, I've thought about it. There are a couple people I think might be able to fit in. Although I'm not really sure. The problem now is that it'd be good if you could program effectively, which takes a long time to hone (at least from my perspective, but it's different for everyone). However, as I became an IDP developer with no java experience, this probably won't be a requirement should I actually get any new developers.

Also, a previous issue makes it a tad bit intimidating to think of taking on a new developer at this point.

Working on the IDP is actually quite fun for me, minus the boring tasks, which aren't too much. Overall, I'd say it's quite fun to work on the IDP.

We've mentioned this a few times, but we keep a list of "issues" on a private development redmine that we can work off of. As of this writing there are 77 open issues for various things. More than enough to keep me busy for quite awhile!

And I have come up with a lot of ideas myself. They also come from other staff members as well. There are even a few community suggested features put into the IDP as well. (I can think of the Hidden waypoint flag that tommykins suggested!)

As for features that generate the most lag, I think games can add more lag to the IDP than anything else, but it depends on the games or other features.

I still seem to help out occasionally, as you help me, do you plan for this to continue?

P.S. Fix players skins appearing below, since you moved DynamicMap, I assume the links no longer work..

A Question: Alpha do you take recommendations seriously, or do you just shrug them off?
*Not a provocative question, I'm actually just curious*

Not quite sure if this has been taken into account but just as a heads up; Has IDP been altered to support player UUIDs rather than their name? As name changing is coming this could cause some serious problems.

Of course! When I make time for it I'll sometimes comb the suggestions board looking at things people have put there, and see how much benefit it may have for Innectis as a whole. A lot of them don't end up being put into IDP, but some of them are put into IDP. One suggestion in fact was to hide the waypoint's destination when shown in /id with a flag, and that was added to IDP.

Yes, this has already been done. The remaining thing is to log the name changes so a player's previous names (if they've changed their name at all) will show up in /stats.
