Now now, I realize most of you reading this are going to be thinking "Reasoning is banned right now! This is a cop out of a ban appeal!". To that I answer no.
I have come to a personal consensus that not many (If anyone) have had very good communication skills lately. All I see lately are more and more ban posts, of new and/or old players stacking up faster then I have ever seen before, but has anyone asked "Does banning a player really help?". Now I am not going to argue anything in specific here, or create a solution for the problems this community is facing, I will leave this to the community. But I do believe there is some form of misdirection happening, especially in the form of communication, and hopefully some of you can see things the way I do and realize the issues at hand.

So what do you think the staff should do instead of banning people for using hacks?
Slap them on the hand and say "No"?
I'm not really sure where you're going with this but I think banning people is the best way to handle situations. Warnings and kicks are already given for spamming and other nuicances so I don't know what else should be done.
A jail wouldn't solve the problem because then players would start raging in /msg, so staff would still see what they're saying, which wouldn't solve the problem.
A ban, on the other hand, removes the nuisance and allows them time to cool off, reflect on what they've done, and how they can improve themselves to avoid another situation related to their ban.
So, "Does banning a player really help?"
My answer: Yes

I think a key issue is that players don't often read the rules of the server. The new tutorial which will take effect for guests will happen with the next update, and there is a rule section (thanks StarScythe7) at the beginning of the tutorial.
Hopefully this way new users will be aware of our guidelines and be less likely to break the rules.
Current members should make it a goal to read the rules if they haven't already, and learn things that they may not be aware of.
-
Of course! What else are you going to do with them? But most players don't even know why they have been banned or for how long as they don't look at the forums which also means they don't look at the server rules!
-
Maybe more kicks and mutes/jails
-
Mute = Broken.
-
I find that it depends on the player and the length of the ban, for example swearing, we ban a player for 6 hours automatically when they swear (I think 6 times), this is harsh yes, but I think it has (for some people) reduced the amount that they swear. However there are those people that still continue to swear because the ban doesn't matter as much to them.
The more lengthy the ban, the more effect it may have, people enjoy playing the game, and hence stopping them from doing so could have an effect, and the more time that goes by, the greater the effect, however I agree that it doesn't matter to some people. Other punishments for different cases may be used, such as jail or mute, and etc, however kicking players seems to have little effect on those who intend to cause trouble. It has also occurred before that players have had items removed from them in cases such as x-ray.
-
Mute = Broken.
Fix mute then, this issue has been unadress for some time now.
Another thing that I could thing would help in some situations, if to lock a player to their lots for a certain amount of time. I do not know if this is possible, but for things such as greifing perhaps, the player could be forced to remain only on their lot(s) for a certain period of time.
This is the movement I am trying to create here, I knew as soon as I created this topic, someone (Rick in this case) would instantly neglect it and come up with an easy answer without thinking about possible outcomes. Please do not reply to this with any more "No I like ban it stays!" posts, for I know a lot of people have this opinion, however I do not feel this way, so if this gets ignored, fine by me. It seems to happen a lot anyways. But I just ask to please be optimistic.
-
Mute = Broken.
Mute = staff having to deal with the person spamming their chat.

There are some cases where it doesn't have any effect, this has been unaddressed for awhile. One of us will do it in time, so don't need to worry there.
-
So what is your solution, Reasoning? I haven't seen you think about any possible outcomes from your unpreposed solution.
If you can tell me what you want to happen, I'll stop trying to help solve this.
-
You're mad because you got banned. You think there's a problem because we ban people for using xray and/or think we ban too much... ...Or maybe people cheat to much. /thread.

I am actually quite contempt with serving my ban time, I don't know why you would say this, have you taken the time to speak to me? Because I do not believe you have.
Please do not jump to conclusions.
@Rick I do have ideas, and have expressed some to selected people, but I would like to see the community's opinion for every time I seem to speak my mind, somehow I turn into the bad guy, and people who have hardly ever talked to me seem to turn the tables around. Prime example would be the 2 posts above this.

This servers always been ban happy even when it was Otakucraft there are other ways to deal with issues but at the end of the day its whether the staff can be bothered to implement them or take the easy option of slapping bans on people.
-
There is another server that permabans when you are banned and the only way you can come back is to appeal. And people are banned daily.
So if you think Innectis is ban happy, you haven't explored enough.

I question whether a ban is the proper situation in all cases. Does it really teach a lesson? Or does it simply temporarily fix a problem?
P.S. Since I know someone will have the ignorance of posting it. Yes, once again, whatever you may all think, I could care less about being banned at the moment, and no that is not my reason for posting.
-
I think a ban is mainly because we don't want to take the time to come up with another protocol that works. So we do it this way. Yes we have muting, we also have jailing, but the thing that hits the player hardest is when we ban them for breaking rules.
-
I don't see why you guys label Reason as a bad guy for pointing out community flaws. All he is doing is pointing out well known facts that others are either too afraid or too lazy to bring up. Honestly, you should get to know him better, he isn't here to just point out flaws, he is here to have fun, play minecraft, and have input into the community in the same way other members do. I hate people having the concept that we ignore the community's opinions, and want that to change. Bring up any problems you have with IDP, Staff, Bugs and other players. We are an open book, let us have your opinions, and insight.
-
I don't think anyone said the staff ignore our opinions....
Not sure where you got that from, unless I overlooked something.
-
When a player gets banned they realise they have broken the rules. So then hopefully they don't do it again. What other option is there?
-
What I meant was, this post is about Reasons opinion on how to deal with problems (hence the topic title). Then we have staff saying this:
You're mad because you got banned. You think there's a problem because we ban people for using xray and/or think we ban too much... ...Or maybe people cheat to much. /thread.
No opinion offered, just "You're mad because you got banned." Would you be want to say your opinion when a staff member just comes along and pushes your opinion aside?

That happens all the time so...... ??????????????????????

Hmm Skye, I wonder which staff member is seemingly famous for doing so *hint hint* *nudge nudge*
-
I could care less about your opinion, because you're a hypocrite beyond so many levels.

So, because Skye and Reasoning don't like each other, that automatically means that we (the community) think the staff push our opinions aside?
I haven't seen a staff member completely shoot down an opinion or suggestion; I've just seen Skye and Reasoning butting heads about her choices, which I don't really see the problem with.
Now, I know I'm not on the server much but from what I observed, but that's just what I've seen.
-
It's not just because they "don't like each other". Staff in general, not just Skye, She was just used as the example here.
-
I guess I'm just not on the server enough to notice this.

We take great interest in the community when it comes to expand Innectis. Although we have much to do behind the scenes as lots of stuff still has to be implemented, we still put all of this in mind. Although we don't accept all suggestions, we look at what has been suggested and act based on how we feel about the situation.
Although we do not accept all suggestions, we do appreciate that players take the time to think about ways that we can expand our community. It is an honor that the community enjoy us so much that they would like to see us expand by offering us suggestions.
Although there does seem to be matters of unrest in our community we still try to take care of them when they do happen. We are not completely free of all drama, but we are still trying. If we have to make a change for the better if it means solving a difficult problem we will be more than happy to do so if it benefits everyone. I do not want to cause unrest in the community, and neither do the other staff. A good community is one in which both the staff and players can co-exist without issues.
Yes, there may be some issues between players and staff, but unfortunately that is inevitable. It will always be like that, if two people think much differently. We just have to bare with those who have issues, and if push comes to shove, deal with them in a certain way.
@Skye: I know what a hypocrite is, and Reasoning is not a hypocrite. He has valid opinions, and so do other players. His opinions may conflict with your ideals, but you two think differently when it comes to some things. That's just a way of life.

He calls IDP trash, yet won't set foot in Freebuild? So you're blind. Simple.
-
You have opened my eyes via MSN. Now, we just need to reach a common consensus about things, so no one has any disagreements. Outline our flaws so we can work to fix them.
-
MSN? Damn, I meant Trillian.
-
@Skye, Yes I do realize that I have talked down about the IDP in the past, and that I do like the vanilla aspects of the game, but I believe you have embellished my words a slight bit. I have previously stated that my "dream server" (for lack of a better term) would include only Lot Protection, and no other IDP features. However, I have never called the IDP "Trash", for if I did, I do not believe I would continue to be a part of this community.
On a side note, Skye if you wish to continue this conversation, I would appreciate if we could do so somewhere that is not forum spam =]
-
This isn't forum spam. This is interesting. :3
Please, tell me more about your problem with IDP. :P
-
I'm not talking to you anywhere else but here, and you're lucky to get that.

Oh what a kind member of the staff you are Skyeheart! I wish I could be more like you. Please, tell me your secrets of how you can manage to be so rude, yet nobody can notice it and you remain full of yourself.
Now, if you don't mind, I'll go meditate under a waterfall for the next 50 years and try to learn the ways of the Skye. Talk to ya later =]

Thank you Liam for bringing this up. Now I ask you, why does everyone ignore. Correct me if I am wrong, but It seems as though most people are scared to talk about some issues/problems/topics. And when people (I) bring these up, they seem to get bashed my an opposition, and then ignored because people are scared to share their voice, and as you said, "We just ignore it".
-
Well I remember posting about Skye's rudeness to people in a topic. You can no longer find that post!
-
Any rudeness directed from a staff member to a regular user is wrong. Even if directed through a PM is wrong. I dislike the behaviors of quite a few players on our server, but I don't go up and tell them they're retarded, or stupid. No, I would more likely list their flaws than tell them they're a moron.

Refer to reply #34 in this thread. Please.

But Skye is still allowed to be rude to everyone else? Bit of a corrupt system.

Someone sees this how I have seen it for the last... Forever? It's a miracle :)

All right, so we have a disagreement between two people here, where one of them is a moderator.
Ok, ok, so we are supposed to be on top of every disagreement that arises?
Yes, I know that its going around for a while and I hoped you could solve it without someone like me holding your hand to say sorry to that big bully.
Skye, you're a big girl, and you are a big boy reasoning.. At least, I think you both are.
Surely you would be able to say, "Hey, I don't like you.. Let's just play the game, and stay away from each other."
Wait, never mind that clearly you can't.
For now, lets agree to this.
Skye, be a bit nicer to players and TheReasoning here.
If you can't... ignore him, if you can't do that being moderator might not be the best thing for you.
As for you TheReasoning.
Cut down your underhand remarks, I am getting a strong feeling you're not helping on the subject.
