I had this idea while hunting some cows earlier, and decided to post it here.
In a nutshell, instead of getting close enough to a block to hit it, you instead shoot a block from a distance to select it for WEing.
This could be implemented in a wide variety of ways, such as using an actual bow and arrow, clicking from a distance with the wand, etc.
I'm too lazy to make this post pretty. ironically, this addition will probably make everyone lazier. :P

You could just use Twresize.
Using arrows via bow doesn't sound like such a good idea to me, it could be annoying to try and hit a block if it's really far away, and if I'm correct arrows have some sort of randomization for which way they drift midair, which could make hitting your target even harder.
Not to mention arrows would also need to be tracked somehow, so the devs may need to add something for that.

someone else suggested using like a snowball instead.
Just using a hitscan would work too. (The wand already uses this for right click, doesn't it?)

This would be very unreliable, if used to set certain points, as you can't guarantee hitting the right area.
