Wolves spawn only it certain biomes at certain times. There isn't a limit to them spawning :P

However there is a limit to the number you can own. Its to prevent people from lagging the server with hundreds of wolves. Its not hurting anything if you have multiple wolves in different lots. But if you get all the wolves together and start attacking stuff, all but 1 will disappear.

I support this suggestion too, I had 2 wolves and left one outside....never to be seen again :(
