Pemaban 'no appeal' period?
« on: June 03, 2012, 07:08:50 AM »
Evening guys, just a quick suggestion in light of Tommy's permaban. Given the inconsistent nature of the term 'permaban' as of late (i.e. ArronM's return to the server, Fangula's second chance before he was permabanned again, etc), perhaps it's time to review what the term 'permaban' actually means under Innectis rules and regulations.

My proposition is this: A user who is 'permabanned' will instead undergo a period of 'no appeal', the extent of which will be posted by the staff depending on the severity of the offence. Permabanned users will NOT be allowed to appeal against their ban for the time outlined, and their ban will not be lifted unless the user contacts staff after the conclusion of the 'no appeal' period. However, I must stress that this idea is not to be taken lightly or just handed out at will - it would, of course, be reserved for serial repeat offenders and the worst of server violations.

What are your thoughts on this?

I like the idea of a no appeal period, but if they are given a chance to appeal in the future, perhaps we should have a new name for bans of this type (if this ban type is used)?

Anyways, Tommy has repeatedly been banned and given plenty of warnings about his behavior, and the staff have been getting pretty tired of it.

Here's links to all of his ban threads (excluding the most recent):

(I'm going to go update my ban post with these right now btw)

We normally don't unban people that are permbanned. But when others want him to unbanned (like in Arronm's case the most of the staff) there isn't much I can do.

Now as for giving them a second chance, I won't make it a secret that I wouldn't have unbanned certain players.
But there is something some of you need to keep in mind.

If somebody is repeatability banned or giving a lot of problems on the server, it requires us to sort things out as well. On a small scale this doesn't matter. But when the problems get bigger it does take a lot of time. Time that could be used for the IDP or even work.

That said, I have to admit in the case of Arronm it did kind of work out. But in other cases it didn't...
Anyway, I like this idea. Maby something like a 3-4 month period at least, and after that playervote?
(Note: I will always reply to perma-unban things with 'NO'.)

I agree with Hret; a 3-4 month period where they are actually permabanned and then after that they get one last chance. Arron was banned for way longer than Fangula - look at the difference of how they turned out.

ArronM changed a lot after being unbanned. However, in the case of Fangula, he just kept doing what he was doing before. As such, he has no place on Innectis.

I am for this as well, but don't call the first offense a permban then?

How's thsi:

We ban them for 3 or 4 months, with no appeal, as was suggested. Then, the staff vote on it, and come to a conclusion if the person is able to come back. Then take it to the community, to decide if they think the person is worthy to come back.

This will incorporate the community in yet another ability. The first is to elect the final candidates for mod. The other would be to decide the outcome of a user wanting to come back.

Thus, you take the value of community one level higher than you did on Innectis.
