Are you one of those people who are going to use a laptop as a desktop most of the time, but you buy it for the portability that you would use every so often?
If so, it is smart to remove your battery when not in use. If you leave a battery in, while the laptop is plugged into AC power, the battery life will go down.
I recommend taking out the battery, then putting it back in every once and a while when you want to walk around. I would also recommend using the battery (without AC power) about once a week, just to keep it in shape.

It's better to leave the battery in.
Run the laptop on battery power, and kill the battery, then charge the battery, and so on. If you leave the battery out, it slowly loses it's charge, and doesn't retain a charge well after repeatedly doing that..

I run on AC Power 24/7. Only reason I have a laptop is because thats all my dad's work gets for its employies so the only old equipent we get ends up being laptops.
Your more likely to damage the battery or another part of your laptop if you take it out a lot..

It's to much hassle...You get no benefit by taking it out...

That's the problem with a lot of batteries.... Espcially lithium ion batteries.....
They are known as "memory" batteries because they always forget how much battery power they have. It just boils down to the thing not working for you at all...
